Overview
Public Works Department (PWD) has a glorious history in the state of over 150 years. It is mainly entrusted with construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and government buildings. The department also acts as the technical advisor to the State Government. Initially, the works pertaining to Irrigation, Roads and Bridges as well as constructions cum maintenance of Public Buildings were entrusted to this department.
Public Works Department of Govt. of Maharashtra primarily executes different vivid development works like Construction of New Roads & Bridges, Maintenance and repairs of existing Roads and Bridges, Construction of Govt. buildings, Maintenance and Repairs of existing Govt. buildings, Construction of Road's under Employment Guarantee Scheme, Reservation of Govt. Rest Houses and Circuit Houses, irrigation drains, electricity lines, telephone duct cables etc. along and across the roads.
The Electrical Wing is headed by the Chief Engineer (Electrical) Mumbai who controls the Superintending Engineers stationed at Bombay / Pune / Nagpur and Aurangabad. The Executive Engineers/Deputy Engineers/Sectional Engineers are deployed under each Superintending Engineer according to necessity.

Many of the Government departments have their offices housed in the same buildings for quite a long period. The buildings are old and the electrical wiring is poor as the electrical layout is with the technology which has become older and outdated in today’s era. PWD department who is on the forefront of providing different vivid development works to the society wants its own offices to be electrically safe and sound without need to relocate.

Evaluating the Situation
The Electrical wing headed by the Chief Engineer (Electrical) Mumbai and supported by Deputy Chief Engineer (Electrical) carefully evaluated POWEReasy features with their electrical DB and decided to go with POWEReasy Protection Unit with Wi-fi for their existing office as they wanted their offices housed in older buildings to be totally free from any kind of electrical fire risk.

The Benefits
POWEReasy averted a major catastrophic event by identifying a cable with outer insulation peeled off and inner wire strands coming in contact. POWEReasy also assisted the electrical team to identify loose wiring early enough to avoid any risk from an electrical fire. SMS for critical events were received on registered mobiles and helped to understand electrical fault events even during the holidays. PWD will influence other Government Organizations to take initiative and take steps towards electrical safety in their respective departments.
